It has been 20 years today since my mother died. The list of things I never got to share with her is long. There are so many things I didn't understand enough to be able to ask her back then.
I miss her. I wish my kids could have known their grandmother. She would have loved them so much.
Here is a poem I wrote about a dream my father had two nights before my mother died. He lived ten more years after she died.
Harvest
She draws ragged breath;
he dozes in a nearby chair.
In his dream, they walk together
along a golden lane
beside a gentle stream,
sunlit trees heavy with fruit,
luscious and ripe, beckoning to them.
She stretches out her fingers
to pull sweet peaches,
fuzzy and round, from the branches.
He also reaches for this goodness,
yet it withers and dies in his hand.
She gathers grapes, plums, and berries,
bountiful, beautiful and fresh.
He tries again and again,
but his hands hold only ashes.
She is sated but his hunger remains.
He awakens and knows
a journey started so long ago
will soon reach an end.
She is ready for the harvest—
but he will have to wait.
I'm going to tell you something about myself that I think is peculiar and gives you more of an idea of what kind of person I am or think I am. If you've ever done one of these things, then reply in the comments and post this in your journal along with something or things that you find interesting about yourself.
- In a sandwich I must have the bread lined up the way it was sliced or I won't eat it
- I find it hard not to moo when driving past cows in a field
- I love the way a sweaty horse smells
- I hate to share a drink with anybody (Exception -- on a hot day I will share with Nevada. See picture below for Nevada)
- I get a queasy feeling in my stomach when one of my kids shows me their boo-boos
- I love going to the beach but I don't really like being wet
- I have eaten an entire tube of premade cookie dough without cooking any of it
- I like to put my cold feet on my husband to warm them up (Thankfully he usually doesn't mind)
Nevada - He is so beautiful!

Title: When your heart's not in it
Fandom: Supernatural
Rating: PG - strong language
Spoilers: Season 4
Disclaimers : Not my characters.
For reasons unknown to me (since I am not a Supernatural fanatic) I felt compelled to write this fic-let down last night. My only defense is that those boys are really cute and since I do live with two really over- the-top Spn fans, it must be contagious.
I have lost loved ones in my life and I know what it is like to feel an emptiness where there used to be a person. Losing someone important to you leaves a hole in your heart.
When your heart’s not in it …

Confession -- The closest books were cookbook and craft books. So I skipped them and picked up the next closest book. This is one of my daughter's books which I have not read. She recommends it. Perhaps I will read it now.
If you have read this far, tag you are it.

Notes: This was started as a gift for my crazy, maniacal in-house "Supernatural" fan and then my muse galloped away, so I had to give it to her unfinished. Since I don't watch the show, you will have to get over anything that doesn't fit canon. If this looks familar to some of you, it was originally posted by
